In this post, I'd like to reflect my chosen topic for my master thesis considering all the inputs and discussions I've got so far. To start, let's have a look in the schemas I developed during the first workshop "Open the Designspace" and how it changed:Inital Position / Context
On the one hand I'd like to combine my knowledge of the previous study, namely computer science as well as science of sport and motricity, and my private interest in sport in general in my master thesis in Interaction Design. On the other hand the socity has its problems and challenges. In reference to sport and health, the following points are crossing my mind:- stress and pressure at work (feeling stressed, always in a rush and never relaxed)
- demographic changes (people getting older)
- Motion deficit
- Overweight and health problems
Goals and Approach
In a first step I defined my goal the following way: increase the number of people doing sport There are different approaches from where I could try to work towards this goal, as the following graphic illustrates. Since I'm really interested in sport specific questions more than in social or psychologic problems, I'd like to focus on how to make sport more motivating so people don't quit. Of course, this needs to become more specific in the future.Workflow
A first schedule divides the working process in four major parts- research (data & facts, research about motivation, sport psychology, build hypotheses possibly looking and contacting partners...)
- develop (try different approaches and do tests/experiments, analyze results)
- focus ( on the best approach)
- finalize (product)
- defining target group (for who am I designing?)
- find and contact possible Partners (who could be interested in this?)
- do research about the topic (and subtopics)
- build hypotheses
