WEEK 1:

Assignment 1: Background Research

Background

Assignment 2: Into the Wild

WEEK 3:

Assignment 4: Fake it!

With a simple 5-sentences-story, we had to decide, how our concept would be told in a short story. We decided to deepen our stones-idea and create out of this short story a coherence of all our ideas being showed above. "steingarten" The concept is an interactive surface that is situated outside the church. The surface has a kindle like display that needs ambient light to be seen. As its not a display that lights up. Their are different types of stones that interact with the screen. hidden in the garden are "Text" stones that have a symbol or nr. pertaining to the text or its def in the bible. In addition there are "element" stones that represent Water Wind Earth and Fire. The text stones can be dropped onto the table to display a certain text from a story in the bible or a song. The text then lies on the table and awaits interaction from one of the element stones. The water for example washes away the text. The wind stone blows the text away. The earth stone collects the text into small balls which can be pushed around. And the fire stone "burns" the digital text of the surface. The more text stones that are on the table the more text can be interacted with. The surface is a nice way to connect the kids to their parents. Allowing children to play with the words whilst the parents can read them and take away the ideas supplied in the texts. Storyboard The premise for our group is a story concerning a father and daughter interacting with the "story table." The father is distracted in a phone conversation. His daughter notices the colorful stones in the church garden. As children are attracted to colors she walks into the garden and picks up the stones. She discovers some text engraved in the bottom of the stone or a symbol which increases the young girls curiosity. Next to the garden against the church is a table with akindle like screen that does not illuminate on its own but needs ambient light just like the kindle. Little does the girl know the book symbol engraved on the stones is also engraved at the bottom of the table to create a small yet obvious connection between the stone and the table. The young girl puts the stone on the table because she sees other stones on the table (element stones). Once the stone is dropped onto the table the text programmed into the stone is shown on the display table. The text moves along with the stone and awaits further interaction through the element stones. A homeless man sitting near the table picks up one of the element stones that lands near his foot through the young girls playing. He stands up and scruffles to the table lightly throwing the stone onto the surface. The element stone that he threw was the "water" stone creating a wanter like pulse on the table that interacts with the text stone and washes away the text. Surprised by this effect. The young girl smiles and lets out a gleefull laugh! The homeless man is also taken aback by the small effect and has to giggle at the girls joy. The girls father comes by startled by the fact that a homeless man is playing with his daughter.. Realizing that they are having a good time he looks at the homeless man and shares a smile. End. Notes: This should illustrate the tables ability to connect people that would not usually interact with each other by creating a simple yet unexpected interaction. Medientisch im Detail

WEEK 3:

Assignment 4: Evaluate
