Process

3. November 2010

We decided to carry on working on an object that records a sleeper’s dreams by waking him up gently during the night, as a tool to keep track of them better. The object trains the aptitude of the user to recall his dreams to promote the luxury of sleeping and use the dreams as a source of creativity.
Consequently, we researched the following:
  • methods of recording dreams that are already available,
  • “pleasant” ways of being woken up,
  • how dreams can be recorded without too much of a fuss during the night,
  • how recorded data could be collected and visualized in a meaningful way,
  • how the object could communicate with the user while simultaneously not disturbing a second sleeper,
  • how the necessary technology for detecting the users sleep cycle, waking the user and recording the dreams can be integrated into the object
  • how we can provide electricity for the object.

Product description

DreamCloud Most of us don’t usually remember many of our dreams. Some people use notebooks to document their dreams. However, many people find it quite difficult to recall the dream the next morning and very uncomfortable to record during the night. DreamCloud can change exactly that! You activate your personal dream catcher simply by turning over your pillow. Dreamcloud monitors your sleep cycle during the night and wakes you up, ever so gently, right after you’ve had a dream. With your dream still fresh in mind, you can now record it, without having to switch on the lights, waking up the person next to you. You begin your recording by squeezing the DreamCloud pillow. If you want to keep your recorded dream, simply squeeze again to save it and you can get right back to sleep. If you wish to go back to sleep without being woken again, just turn over the pillow and DreamCloud won’t bother you anymore during the same night. The next morning, your dream recording is already synced to the DreamCloud servers. Whenever you get a free minute during your day, on the way to work for example, you can use the specially designed app on your smart phone to listen to all the raw dreams you’ve captured. You now have the chance to complete your dreams, if you happen to remember additional details, categorize them more precisely, rate them, tag them with people and places that appeared in the dream and even add your own interpretations. Voilà! Remembering your dreams can be that easy. Your Dreams - close to you. ”
