Soft Architectures
Tutors: Karmen Franinovic and Dino Rossi
The Soft Architectures course explores the application of smart materials and their ability to transform space into responsive, adaptive products and environments.
Drawing on recent advances in the field of Soft Robotics, this hands-on workshop introduces students to the design and fabrication of soft actuators. Specifically, pneumatically driven silicone elastomer actuators ("pneu-nets") will be explored as architectural elements and surfaces that can change their shape.
The final result will be two large-scale interactive installations showcasing possible applications of soft actuators in an architectural context.
Guest critics for the final presentation are Antonio Scarponi of ConceptualDevices and Dave Pigram of supermanoeuvre.
The Soft Architectures course is connected to the Enactive Environments Lab. http://www.enactiveenvironments.com
