A user observation has been conducted in 3 steps.
Step 1:
Shadowing technique to observe a user in a real location. This included identifying landmarks on a map, orientation excercise, viewing of a landmarks from a single spot using public pay-for binoculars.
Step 2:
Observation and screen-capture when using Google Street View. Excercise to locate and navigate to the previously visited spot. Navigating in an unknown city and locating a scenic viewpoint.
Step 3:
Observation and screen-capture when using a virtual tour. In this example the virtual tour had a lot of shortcomings over the quite advanced Google street view.
Step 4:
Interview to identify problems and positive aspects of both virtual examples. More general questions about virtual tours and interfaces.
