Trip to m-way
Our first contact with the assignment was a trip to the m-way store in zurich. We tried out a couple of electric bicycle and electric motorbikes.
Trip to the Zoo
Our main trip to the zoo in Zürich was a helpful way to test our approach to a trip. We decided that the best way to test such a trip is without any preparations, so we can test multiple aspects like finding information about our destination, how we could travel to it, what we do on the tram, which application we use.
We filmed multiple actions along the way, made notes and tracked our trip using GPS.
The first part was a short preparation. Find the fastest way to the Zoo, buy tram-tickets and inform ourselves about the entrance fees.
The second part was the travel in the tram to the destination. On the way we mostly used newsfeeds to inform us about other things, or simply just looked out the window. Only when a tram change was necessary did we focus on where to get the right information. While taking short breaks to buy supplies and search for team members we were lacking the right information at the right place -this was noticable.
In the zoo, we didn't actually use any applications. Maybe because our main focus was on the attractions presented to us. It would be too much of an effort to search for additional information about animals or locations of specific places.
Conclusion of the zoo-trip:
Mostly we used our mobile phones for entertainment between tram stations. The problem is that we actually had only free time when we were not busy with other tasks like searching the next tram station, interact with other persons, watching animals etc. So in these "breaks" we used our mobile-phone, but not only for the actual "problem" (traveling) but also for entertainment (reading news).
There is for us not really a need for a new travel aid because when we need a tram-connection we use the SBB-app because we know it will give us the right information, and for other tasks there are applications which accomplish this task (Google, wikipedia etc.)

Task 2: Service Competitormatrix
We analyzed different mobile applications, as GPS-tracking, locationfinders, travelguides, travel diaries, car-/flightbooking and other relevant applications .
service konkurrenzanalyse
Our main interest are functions which are invisible or seamless integrated. Location or time based informations give you the right information when you need it and not when you remember it. A friend's recommendations can give you a new view on locations and items. Sometimes compete with your friends in a playful way can motivate your own behavior.
Location based alerts like in iWake, or audio notifications in common navigation applications (Navigon, TomTom) are functions, which enhance the normal visual notifications in the common applications.
Advantage: You don't have to grab your smartphone and unlock it to see what's going on. The information is directly delivered to the user. And if its combined with a location based triggering, you also get the information at the right place, so you won't miss the station where you want to leave the train or bus.
Disadvantage: Everybody around you can also hear these notifications. You have no direct influence when this notifications are delivered.
Recommendations are important to find new locations, gadgets and other things in life.
Advantage: Friend's can give you tips and tricks, a new way of looking at things.
Disadvantage: You have to connect with your friends, and choose which friend you want to "follow" otherwise the amount of recommendations can cause a mess.
More is better vs. less is more
Often travel-application like NAVIGON have many additional features.
More is better, because you can do more, but do we really need them?
More is often also more confusing, more complicated and reduces the strength of the main usage. So many of these Application we analyzed have other features, like social integration (facebook, twitter), but some of the application only do one thing, and still do we use them, because they exactly do what we want (book a flight as example).
